The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

As any major honors show nears, there’s always an outcry for the addition additional classifications to recognize unsung work and delight the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything in 2014
  • A different innovative game received no nominations in 2019
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary game development, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
