Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his first trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his initial title since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of that year.

Success also signifies he has achieved 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.

He rescued four early-game opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
